Research and Planning - 9
Planning and research evidence is partially incomplete.
There is proficient work on research into similar products, and basic work into
potential target audiences. There appears to be no work on the organisation of
actors and locations etc, and no storyboard, script, shot lists etc.
presentation is good, but time management is not.
Main Task – 34
Overall there were successful sequences created, a
controlled use of the camera is apparent and there is a reasonable variety of
shots. Also the sound was built up for effect, and the sound clearly shows a
proficient use of layers of found and created sound. The titles follow
conventions and there is a good use of suitable fonts. The editing is
proficient, although some of the cuts are a little too quick, reflecting the
problems had when filming of turning the camera off too quickly. However there
is limited action (long opening shots of trains and location) with nothing
specifically relating to the narrative. There is not enough substance to the
opening which would have benefited from much more being filmed at each location
to really convey meaning to the viewer.

Evaluation : Question 7
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

Evaluation : Question 6
What have you learned about technologies from the process of construction this product?
Whilst making my film I have learned so many new things about filming, editing and general technology used to make a film. For example Photoshop CS5.1 I personally used this software to make out film production company's logo. With experimenting with the different tools and combining them together to make customized shapes was difficult, but was manageable. My aim for the logo was a skull as it fit with the name of 'Soulplex', so I used the 'Lasso Tool' allowing me to make curved lines to my own liking so I could make the basic template of the skull, with inspiration from other images
I created my own version of detail within the skull and was pleased with the outcome.
After I created the logo, me and my film production partner took the image into After Effects CS5.5 to make an animation to put at the start of out film, we did this by using motion tracking with the help of a YouTube tutorial explaining the steps as we had never used the software before, now I could easily go back into After Effects and create something along the same level without a tutorial now.

Motion tracking, image roles in and the text shrinks from large to normal size in a flying effect.
Whilst using Premier Pro CS5.5 to edit my film I learned a variety of different things, from video and audio transitions to simple things like importing clips and rendering to achieve the best quality available.
First of all I imported our clips that we had recorded and were ready to be edited, I did this by going to file on the task bar and selecting 'Import' on the drop down menu. After importing the clips I then went through each clip and picked out the best shot as we recorded several so we could decide after we had filmed them. After we had chose the clips I then deleted them so the only clips in the Imported Clips section were the ones we were going to use. We then made our first cut which was all of our clips together with no editing, after we did this we used spotlights, video transitions like fading out to black or fading in from black, also we also used audio and text transitions. For example we stuck to a simple theme of fading out on our text, so it wasn't jumpy and looked smooth, next time I make a video clip I will be sure to experiment more with text effects.
We didn't use colour correction in our film opening as we couldn't find an appropriate on to match the theme, how ever we did use RGB colour balance to manually make it look slightly smoother.
An effect I learned was spotlight, we personally used this to make the effect of a moon behind the trees in the first cinematic of our film opening.
Here we have an image from our first cut, which was the tree cinematic with no added effects to it, as you can see it's basic, the lighting isn't great and there is just nothing special about it.
But here we have the image from our final piece, after adding the spotlight behind the trees it added the effect of the moon shining, even though it was filmed in the light we managed to make it look like it was filmed in the dark without any dodgy lighting errors.
Unfortunately we didn't use anything else to record my voice in our film, so all audio was straight from the camera. We added a few sound effects, for example when the phone was ringing, we added a sound we got off freesounds.org so we didn't manually have to have my phone ring and because the clip we got was too long, we cut the sound from the second I picked up the phone.
We also added music, we got one soundtrack from incompitech and one from freesounds.org, we didn't use the whole sound track from either, we cut out one to the other at the appropriate time. We used a track from the start for around 40 seconds, mainly to let the audience get into the film whist the credits rolled over the start of our film opening, the music was quite spooking to get the audience ready for the theme of our film, the second sound clip we used was a kind of Television scratch at the very end when 'Billy' touched the shoulder of Harry, we decided to end our film opening on a more of a loud and jumpy note to leave it on a cliff hanger to make the audience want to come and watch the full film to find out what happens.
I also learned what a Dolly was, I had never seen or heard of one, I had used a tripod in the past but never a dolly, we didn't get the opportunity to use it in our production because our scenery was a field where we wouldn't have got the smooth moving shot effect, I would love to use it next time filming. With the camera I learned how to capture the best shots in many different angles, where to position the camera and when to start and stop recording leaving enough time for editing the clip in Premier Pro.

Evaluation : Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
In our two minute opening of our thriller film 'A boy named Billy', we tried to appeal to a certain target audience, before creating the film we researched the most popular age group for our genre and based it around what they would be interested in watching. To do this we had to make sure our key features were met.
We aimed our movie based on the target audience of mainly males aged 15-24

Evaluation : Question 4
Who would be the audience for our media project?
I have made a film in the horror/thriller genre as this is the kind of film that people from the ages of 15 onwards would enjoy nowadays as they enjoy the suspense and tension in these kinds of films as it builds up there adrenaline. When making a horror movie, you need to look for the incentive of watching them, for example; People watch different genres because they enjoy different content which is in each of them, people would watch a comedy for a laugh, this kind of film is directed to the age-range of anywhere depending on the type of comedy whether it's containing more adult humor like Step Brothers, or more childish humor like Lego Movie, but for horrors, people like a scare or a shock as people enjoy the tension building up to different climaxes of a horror/thriller film. Our secondary audience would be young couples they, if the female is easily scared or grossed out, her boyfriend would be there to comfort her and make her feel safe, however the film would not be directed to older couples, as they may not be interested in the pace of the movie and may want to watch something more calm or romantic as they may have settled down unlike younger couples who may not of been together for long.
Horror/thriller films are often more intellectually demanding therefor meaning it's aimed from mature teenagers onwards as the common themes consist of gore and more mature themes therefor making it potentially unsuitable for anyone younger. Some common themes of a horror thriller are violence, psychological issues possibly making it too intellectually demanding for a younger audience.
My film would be mainly directed towards males than females as males tend to be interested in violence and adrenaline packed movies and aren't easily grossed out by the gore in these types of films, for example the majority of males would prefer to watch 'The Hills Have Eyes' over 'The Fault In Our Stars' as they would enjoy the intense and

I've researched demographics and other topics including different parts of information of the kind of people that enjoy my type of film.

Here are the a few examples of food that people with interest in our film enjoy, what you eat shows a lot about you, for example a vegetarian wouldn't enjoy a film where perhaps an animal could be killed or pass away. Producers can use this information when making their film.
Knowing some features of viewer personality can be used by the producers to create the film to suit these characteristics.

Knowing the ages of people interested in your genre, whether it's a comedy to know what kind of humour to use, or whether it's a thriller/horror to know what story line the ages
would understand.

Evaluation : Question 3
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Paramount Pictures was founded by Adolph Zukor, a Hungarian, in 1912, originally named the 'Famous Players Film Company' which merged to form paramount in 1916.
The mountain featured on the Paramount Pictures' logo has been used in some form in the company's logo since it was founded, and is the longest, existing, original icon in Hollywoord film industry.
The mountain featured on the Paramount Pictures’ logo, has been used in some form in
the company’s logo since it was founded, and is the longest, existing, original icon in Hollywood film industry.

Paranormal Activity The Marked Ones budget's was $5,000,000 (estimated), after the film was done filming and was published, it made $18,343,611 in the opening week of the film, the total gross marked from the 14th of February 2015 was $32,453,345.
The company who distributed this film was
Paramount Pictures, I think this would be the ideal company that we would go for to distribute our film. The reasons behind this is because after looking at the Box Office to 'Paranormal Activity The Marked ones' and seeing how successful it was, as our film is the same genre, it would attract the audience who enjoyed the other horror and horror/thrillers that Paramount Pictures distributed therefore increasing our viewer range massively and increasing our Gross.
Paramount have been around since 1912, therefore meaning they have been a distributing company since almost the start of where the history films began which was in the 1890's, therefore making them a very experience company.
As a conclusion Paramount Pictures are a highly experience company within the movie industry, and have a good audience for films similar to the one I created, therefore making them a perfect media institution to distribute my film.
